How an introvert from Idaho encouraged me to quit my job & move across the world

TL;DR — I quit my job in June 2021 with zero plans. A year later, I had tripled my 9-5 salary and moved across the world. All thanks to an introvert from Idaho named Nathan.

I quit my job in June 2021 with zero plans.

A year later, I had tripled my 9-5 salary and moved across the world. This isn’t meant to brag. In fact, I’m far from my financial goals.

Instead, it serves as another proof point that yes, it’s possible. You can quit your job and fulfill your dreams.

And I wouldn’t have taken that leap if it weren’t for an introvert from Idaho.

Everyone needs that one person or moment in time to encourage them to make the leap

For me, that one person was Nathan Barry, a self-described introvert from Idaho who founded the creator email platform ConvertKit.

In 2019 I attended their user conference Craft + Commerce. I admit – I had never even been to the company website, let alone used their platform. Hell, I didn’t even know what a creator was.

But boy, did I leave that conference jazzed about my future and all the possibilities I had in front of me.

When I got home, I read Nathan’s Ladders of Wealth Creation – a “step-by-step roadmap to building wealth.”

I realized …

  • My relationship with money is warped
  • Time (not money) is my ultimate resource
  • Freedom (not a well-paying job) is my goal

So I made some changes.

2 years later, I quit my job

June 7, 2021 was a long-time coming. I finally quit my job.

For years I knew I was an entrepreneur. But I was scared. I was afraid of coming up with ideas. Of not being perfect. What my friends would say. How my parents would react if I failed.

It just took that one moment where I mustered the balls to say, “This is never going to happen if you don’t jump.”

My first dollar online

Now, I’m on to bigger, better, more impactful things

In my first year consulting full-time, I earned $125k and nearly tripled my 9-5 salary. I thought I had achieved the freedom I initially set out for.

But no.

As a consultant or freelancer, you’re not truly free. You’re a slave to the clock. You’re trading time (your most precious resource) for money.

That realization kickstarted a new project. Although I love consulting and my clients, the work isn’t sustainable for the freedom, time and impact I want to have.

So, onto a new form of work …

  • Where I can scale my time
  • Where I can help more people achieve their goals
  • Where I can unlock the life of freedom I always wanted

Welcome to the creator world, James.

I’ve learned a lot quitting my 9-5 job, starting a consulting business, and scaling that company to 6 figures in less than 10 months. Have questions? DM or email me.
